Chapters five through seven of Sacrifices Rendered Unfit trace what becomes of holiness that cannot reach the altar: surplus money and lost animals, offerings hopelessly intermingled, and doves spoiled in the service. The Rambam rules that consecration, once real, is never simply erased. It is honored to its end, redirected, or set apart, but never treated as nothing.
